Racing to Save Lives
Welcome to my Team In Training home page.
Dear Friends & Family:
As you may already know April 28th is one of my favorite days of the year...my birthday! I love my birthday. And even though it is months away, I have already made fabulous plans! I'll be running my first marathon! The Country Music Marathon in Nashville, TN. 26.2 Miles! This may become the most painful birthday I've ever had, but it also may be the most rewarding by far!
I am training to participate in this endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I'm completing this event in honor of all individuals who are battling blood cancers, including my little cousin Ethan (You saw the pics above, right?! Could he be any cuter?!).
Ethan was diagnosed with leukemia in January 2004, when he was only about 18 months old. So...it took me a while, but I finally have found the courage to raise the money and run a marathon for this great cause...kind of makes me feel like a wimp when I think about the courage Ethan has had to have to fight against cancer! Ethan and all others battling blood cancers are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
Here are some statistics of what we're fighting against. *Leukemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma are the major forms of blood cancers, with leukemia remaining a leading cause of death in children. *Evey 10 minutes another child or adult is expected to die from a blood cancer. This statistic represents 149 people each day or six people every hour. *Leukemias are the leading fatal cancers in men and women under the age of 20. *747,465 Americans are living with leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin disease or myeloma.*This year, an estimated 114, 530 Americans will be diagnosed with one of these blood cancers and about 60,000 will die from these cancers.
So, instead of planning on bringing me a birthday gift, taking me out to dinner, or buying me a drink, please use that money to make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society's mission. And if after making a donation you still feel the need to send me a birthday gift, I won't be mad...I promise! :) My fundraising goal is $5500...although I'd like to go above and beyond that goal! Please click on the button to your left to make your donation today!!
If you have any questions, comments, words of encouragement, or a birthday wish :) feel free to email me at courtney_mcguire@hotmail.com. Check back often for training and fundraising updates!!
Thanks again for your support!! Please send this on to anyone else that may be interested in helping out!
Love, Courtney
