I had to email my bosses and ask them to meet with me on Monday morning. I can't just drive the 3 hours up there and have them not there. So now, if one of them calls me (which I think Rick will), and asks what I want to meet about - what do I say? Just tell him that I'd rather discuss it in person? If he asks me outright if I'm quitting, do I tell him? Also, do I need to submit a formal letter of resignation? I have not done this before, so I need any advice you have!!!!

Yeah, I would just tell him you would rather discuss in person. If he persists and asks if you are quitting then tell him. You will need to submit an official letter of resignation, but keep it very simple. Just a couple of lines to 1 paragraph.
Happy Birthday!!! Hope you have a wonderful day and congrats on the new job!!! Have fun at Ryan's wedding this weekend. Can't wait to see pictures.
First, Happy Birthday. I have been slacking on reading blogs lately and just caught up on a few. I definitely would submit a letter of resignation. I have resigned from 2 companies and always submit a letter. If you want, I can send you my letter I recently submitted...just send me an e-mail and let me know.
I'm with Erica and Kara, I would just say you'd rather discuss in person, but tell him if he persists, and definitely submit a formal letter.
Ditto what Erica said. Even if a resignation letter isn't required it is often expected and shows how professional you truly are.
